Prim "skorodiplomat"

My new acquisition is a dress watch from the beginning of seventies. It is also next timepiece to my Prim watch collection. Prim is my favourite watch brand and this company with more than fifty years of history and tradition is the only producer of watches in Czech republic. To read more about its history please visit the official Prim website (in czech) or their history section (in english).

The nickname of the watch "skorodiplomat" comes from czech collector slang and has an origin in the name "Diplomat" of similar model which had been produced in the same era. The Diplomat watch is very famous and rare model and "skorodiplomat" (the word means "almost diplomat") has the same case and similar dial but lacks the date window (compared to Diplomat).

Watch has 34 mm case made of gold plated brass, spacing between lugs is 18 mm. The bezel is decorated similarly to several Rolex vintage models (the same inspiration can be also found at vintage watches of other brands, for example Marvin). And the reflections of light on bezel which changes with every movement of the watch are really gorgeous to observe. The dome shaped acrylic glass is typical for all vintage Prim watches. Its advantage is, that it can be very easily polished. The heart of the watch, which is hidden behind the screw-down case back, is Prim calibre 66. This hand wound movement (introduced in 1965) with 17 jewels has three hands (hour, minute and central second) and is not equiped by date ring (similar movement with date is Prim cal. 68). Its power reserve is about 35 hours.

However, the watch is quite small compared to current trend, it can be worn to long sleeve shirt and is very comfortable. Through some minor scratches and traces of wearing on case, the watch did not lose anything from its glamour. Last, I want to thank my grandmother, who brought this fine timepiece to me from her friend.
